(Sarah's POV)
At our motel on the beach, sitting out on the balcony in one of the chairs, looking out at the ocean and beach. It's a warm summer evening, pleasant; especially with the damp smell of salt in the air and a cool breeze blowing. I'm curled up in Gerard's lap, my head resting on his shoulder, almost under his chin; and my arms wrapped around his neck. We're both staring out at the water; lost in our own thoughts. The setting sun's casting its orange reflection on the ocean, which almost glows a deep, endless blue.
As the wind blows a particularly harsh gust, I feel Gerard sigh heavily.
"Sarah," He says in his thoughtful, almost sorrowful tone of voice, "There are so many beautiful things in the world, like this. It sometimes makes me wonder why I write so many songs about pain."
"There's also a lot of pain in the world, Gerard. You and I both know that very well." I tangle my fingers in the little bit of his hair that I can reach as I speak.
"True." That's all he says. His expression is distant, and his eyes look out on the ocean as if they can see forever. Or maybe they look like he's blind. I don't know.
Nothing more is said between us for several minutes, and the only sounds are that of the waves crashing and Mikey and Frank's quiet conversation coming from inside the motel room. The silence between us isn't awkward though, just thoughtful, peaceful, comfortable.
We stay silent for a few more minutes, and then Gerard speaks up; and the world sort of stops for some reason.
"This has to be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
I tilt my head and bite the inside of my cheek the way I do when I'm thinking about something, and then reply.
"Nah, can't say I agree."
"You can't?" He seems a little suprised.
"No. I've seen something far more beautiful than that."
"What is it?"
I lift my head up, looking Gerard in the eye.
"You."
