Title: Dueling Guitars [Standalone]
Author: Sarah Rody (Me.)
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I don't own Frankie. I do, however, own myself, Larten, and Vanez.
Summary: A short peice about guitar playing.
Author's Note: This was written for a contest for another forum I'm on, we were to all write a brief story based on one of the songs from the movie August Rush. I picked the song Dueling Guitars, and this is what resulted. Heavily based on a dream I recently had.

"C'mon, Frankie! Hurry the f*ck up!"
Sarah ran down the mile-long hill in the woods, headed for the stream; her dobro guitar strapped to her back and Frank galloping along behind her. On his back was their acoustic, Larten. The pair raced down the hill at full speed, dodging fallen trees as they ran. When they reached the small clearing by the creek, they stopped. Sarah dropped Vanez on the ground (A very careless thing to do with a guitar, she knew) and collasped, and Frank did the same with Larten before falling beside her.
"Sh*t," She said as they both panted for breath, "What a run."
Frank nodded his agreement. "Yeah. Doesn't help matters much that we're not in exactly great shape."
"Nope," Sarah said as she reached over and grabbed her dobro, lazily strumming a few chords. "So, whaddya wanna play?"
Frank picked up the acoustic. "I don't know."
Sarah continued to strum Vanez for a moment, and then stopped and looked up at her friend.
"Y'know the guitar part from that movie, August Rush? Dueling Guitars or whatever it was?"
"Yeah. It didn't look too hard."
"Let's play that."
Frank was silent for a moment before he started picking out the opening notes on his guitar, and Sarah chimed Vanez a few times before they began to strum the rhythm together. They were slow and somewhat cautious at first; trying to remember how the song sounded.
And then it started coming back to them.
The pace picked up, and they began to take turns - Sarah playing one thing, then Frank copying her or vice versa. Before long they totally forgot they were trying to copy a song, and began coming up with their own moves. As Aaron would say they "hit the groove", both becoming more daring with each pick of a string or strum of a chord. It was clear they were having a war of who could do what better, but neither was winning.
They were communicating better than they ever could have with words, and it was magical in a weird way. It was always like that when the guitar became your soul and you didn't even think about what you were doing any more; but it was a thousand times better with somebody else.
Five or so minutes passed before they came to the big finish, both strumming the two guitars open and then muting them before the echo floated too far away in the woods.
Sarah and Frank looked up at one-another, both grinning. Frank laughed that childish laugh of his and then spoke.
"Now that's what I call dueling guitars."
